Turf Update & New Golf Amenities Package

The 2017 golf season might not be in full swing, but we have certainly received an early preview courtesy of a mild winter to date from mother nature. It has been great to see many of you out on the golf courses over the past week. The turf team has adjusted from our typical February painting work to rolling greens, raking bunkers, and cutting new cups. As I write this we are removing the winter covers from many of the greens and tees and applying plant protectants. While it is hard to predict that winter is completely behind us, we do have to react to the current weather pattern and do our best to produce healthy plants.

As you get out on the golf course for the first time this year, you may notice some trees have been removed. As I stated in a previous post, many were removed because they were dead or dying from the Emerald Ash Borer. Others had to be removed to promote healthier turf. I want everybody to know that this is part of a tree management program, and each fall we are planting trees in strategic places to replace some of the trees removed. A good example of this is we did plant some new trees to the left of 15 West 3 years ago anticipating the removals that occurred this winter.

I also wanted to give a sneak peak of some new golf amenities coming this year to both golf courses. We will be adding new tee signs, tee markers, ball washers, and divot boxes.
