As most of the snow has melted from the golf courses the race has begun to get the courses cleaned up from the winter and ready for another exciting golf season. There are many different jobs that have to be accomplished in order to get the golf courses open for play with great conditions. There are the obvious jobs of raking up all the debris that wind storms scattered over the golf course throughout the winter, and putting out the freshly painted or some cases brand new golf amenities. The turf team will be getting a first cut on all playing surfaces and rolling greens to create quality conditions. Probably one of the most commonly overlooked and most physically demanding jobs is repairing all the bunkers. One of the effects from the mild winter is that the bunkers sustained many washouts. The turf team will be spending many hours shoveling each bunker so that they all have a consistent 4 inch depth of sand. We will be repairing bunker liner that is exposed and adding sand to bunkers that are deficient. There are many aspects that have to come together to get the courses ready for the season, and the turf team is working hard to get them all done. Before Repair: After Repair:
