The town’s first golf course – the nine-hole Hershey Golf Club – opens. The course is located between the chocolate factory and Milton S. Hershey’s home, High Point.
Milton Hershey commissions Maurice McCarthy to design the West Course and opens Hershey Country Club. Milton S. Hershey’s home, High Point, serves as clubhouse until 1970. McCarthy also designs Hershey Park Golf Club, which is later renamed Parkview Golf Course. Parkview closes in 2005.
The Juvenile Golf Club, designed by Maurice McCarthy, opens to juniors under the age of 18. Guests over this age must be invited by a junior (first golf club of its kind in the United States). In 1969, the course is renamed Spring Creek Golf Course.
The West Course hosts the Hershey Professional Invitational Golf Tournament (1933-1934). Name then changes to Hershey Open (1935-1937, 1939, 1941).
Henry Picard is hired as Head Golf Professional and serves until 1941. Nicknamed the "Hershey Hurricane" and “Chocolate Soldier,” his on-course skills led to 26 wins on the PGA Tour, including the 1936-1937 Hershey Open, 1938 Masters, and the 1939 PGA Championship. The Hotel Hershey Golf Course opens in May (closes November 2005).
Hershey Round Robin Four-Ball Invitational Tournament begins.
The West Course hosts the 23rd PGA Championship. Byron Nelson beats Sam Snead during one of his 11 straight PGA Tour victories.
Ben Hogan becomes Head Golf Professional and serves until 1951. Of his 63 tournament wins, 52 occurred during his tenure as Hershey’s golf professional, including six majors.

Hershey Country Club hosts the 44th PGA Professional National Championship from June 26-29; David Hutsell, Director of Instruction at Elkridge Club in Baltimore, Maryland, is declared champion following a second playoff hole.
The West Course hosts the 51st USGA Women’s Senior Amateur Championship from September 8-13. Ellen Port, from St. Louis, won her fifth career USGA women's title, beating Jane Fitzgerald, from Kensington, MD, 4 and 3.
The East Course hosts the NCAA Division II Men's Golf National Championship from May 18-24. Barry University (FL) won the medal match play format over Lynn University (FL). Tim Couch, from Florida Southern, won the Individual Championship title.
